VESICA PISCIS MAGAZINE is a web magazine focused on shoegaze, launched in 2019 and officially kicked off in 2020. In an age where information is oversaturated due to the rise of social media, the value of “new information” has reached a tipping point. We believe that “next-generation communication” goes beyond information—it’s about respecting and honoring the culture. As a leading voice in Japan’s shoegaze scene, we embrace shoegaze not just as a genre, but as a culture that has influenced the entire indie scene. We are dedicated to delivering the current state of the scene to the next generation.

VESICA PISCIS MAGAZINEはシューゲイザーにフォーカスしたWEBマガジンで、2019年に立ち上げ、2020年から本格的に活動を開始しました。SNSの普及により情報は飽和し、「新しい情報」の価値が限界に達した今、私たちは「次世代への発信」が情報だけではなく、文化へのリスペクトであると考えています。日本のシューゲイザーシーンを牽引する存在として、シューゲイザーを単なるジャンルにとどまらず、インディ・シーン全体に影響を与えた文化として捉え、シーンの「今」を次世代に届けることに全力を注いでいます。

Rating Criteria Explained

The rating is not a direct measure of an artist’s or album’s superiority, but rather an evaluation based on the distinct characteristics of each album through the lens of shoegaze. The scoring is derived from three key elements: Atmosphere, the depth and spatial expansion within the soundscape; Affect, the ability to evoke emotional responses through the auditory experience; and Character, the album’s uniqueness and distinctiveness, evaluating how it stands out either by staying true to tradition or introducing innovative approaches. These components collectively contribute to the TOTAL SCORE, providing a numerical reflection of the album’s overall quality.

レイティングはアーティストやアルバムの優劣を示すものではなく、シューゲイザーという視点から各アルバムの特徴を評価した結果です。この評価は、3つの要素に基づいています。Atmosphere（サウンドスケープにおける深い感覚や空間の広がり）、Affect（聴覚的に感情的な反応を引き出す力）、Character（アルバムの独自性や特徴、伝統に根ざすものか革新的なアプローチを取るか、またその個性が際立っているかを評価）の3つです。これらの要素が総合的に評価され、TOTAL SCOREとしてアルバムの全体的なクオリティを数値化しています。
